Drive in through the forest and escape to a wildlife reserve. A new playground has recently been unveiled to keep the kids entertained, the Crepe Shack is a favourite with our family, and a great walk through the trees. Trek over the dunes and discover the beach itself. Never crowded (even in the height of summer), we guarantee you will feel transported to somewhere far from everyday life. The largest and best known of St Andrews’ beaches, famous for the opening scenes of Chariots of Fife, situated at the edge of town and a stone’s throw from the world famous Old Course. There are brand new Beach Wheelchairs (free to rent) so all the family can get out and make the most of the beach. Blown Away outdoor activities are becoming a firm favourite with guests who are looking to get the adrenaline going! Hen parties, families and competitive couples have all reported back with rave reviews.
On the south side of the old harbour in St Andrews the East Sands is a favourite with surfers, fishing enthusiasts and keep photographers. There is a small kids play area, toilet facilities, and first aid facilities. Its often quieter than big sister West Sands but can be more sheltered.
Aberdour Silver Sands
Winner of a Keep Scotland Beautiful 2018 Beach Award and VisitScotland 4 Star Quality Assurance Award, Silver Sands is a favourite with the locals. It has a large café and play area. There are uninterrupted views out to the Islands of Inchmickery and Inchcolm. Aberdour Silver Sands toilets won Gold in the National Loo of the Year Awards 2018 (always good to know!)
Shell Bay near Earlsferry is the start of the Chain Walk. Not for the faint-hearted (make sure to check the tides in advance!), wear sturdy shoes, take someone with you and be sure to boast of your adventure once finished! Behind the beach itself there is a caravan park with children’s play area, shop, café and toilets.
