If you are on your holidays in St Andrews this August and you fancy getting in touch with your creative side then why not plan a day out to explore the variety of fabulous exhibits at the famous Pittenweem Arts Festival? It is a truly unique and quirky festival to experience, where you walk the streets and wynds and pass something fabulously tantalising on each turn! It all started in 1982, when creative minds belonging to the residents of Pittenweem came together and decided to exhibit their works in the spaces available to them in the village. Since then 100’s of arts and crafts people from all over Britain have come to this creative hub to exhibit their works in studios, galleries, houses and public spaces making even the means of exhibiting works an art in itself.

So what is on…

Set in ‘painters paradise’ next to beautiful seascapes and rows of colourful seaside cottages the festival runs over 9 days and offers much for its 25,000 visitors to explore. There is a choice of exhibitions displaying artists works, which you can you see here to find out more about. From stunning abstract seascapes to contemporary jewellery and captivating sculptures you will marvel at what is around every corner.

It is also ideal if you are looking for family days out in Fife as there are events the whole family can enjoy, such as storytelling from Chatterbox Stories, making mad animals from clay, weaving with recycled materials and turning your hand to steel sculpturing and much more. Live performances are also part of the of the weeks events including an evening of Blues, Soul and Rock and Roll by ‘Wolfman’ Jock on Saturday the 6th, a varied programme of Chamber music at the Castle Concert Series on the 10th August and the Rose Room who got to the finals in the Scottish Jazz Awards will be performing on Friday 12th. ‘The Lost Treasure’ a film weaving together footage with traditional songs, field recordings and archival records of oral history through a captivating audio visual performance can be seen on Saturday 13th.
