Golf Breaks in Scotland – St Andrews

St Andrews is famed the world over as the Home of Golf, and attracts thousands of visitors every year, looking to follow in the footsteps of legends by playing the Old Course. A trip to St. Andrews is one of the best golf breaks in Scotland and a must for any golf enthusiast.

Elderburn Lodges are only a short distance from the Old Course itself, as well as several other outstanding world-class golf courses, so it goes without saying that we are perfectly placed to host groups of visitors seeking the ultimate in luxury golf breaks.

Although the Old Course is undoubtedly the epicentre of world golf, Fife is home to over 45 clubs, some of which are the most historic and challenging Scottish golf courses, making it the perfect destination for your Scottish golf break. In St Andrews itself there are an incredible 11 courses, eight of which are considered to be championship class. Around 6 miles along the coast you will find Kingsbarns, hailed as a links masterpiece when it opened in 2000. The Alfred Dunhill Links Championship is played every year between Kingsbarns, the Old Course, and Carnoustie in neighbouring County of Angus – yet another spectacular course – regularly used for the British Open, and within driving distance of your luxury break at Elderburn lodges. Scotscraig Golf Club is also well worth a visit, located just along the coast from us in Tayport. An Open Final Qualifying Course, and the 13th oldest golf club in the world, it is ideally located between St. Andrews and Carnoustie. Let us help you book your tee time!

Other courses include Muirfield – a little further away in East Lothian, but at number 9 in the top 100 golf courses in the world, absolutely well worth the 90-minute drive. Closer to St Andrews, Lundin Links is considered by Golf Monthly magazine to be one of the finest links courses in the UK, and is regularly used for Open qualifying. At nearby Kingarrock Hickory Golf Club you can step back in time and play a round with vintage hickory sticks in the spirit of ‘Old’ Tom.

Further along the coastline Balcomie Links – a Morris designed course owned by one of the oldest clubs in the world, Crail Golfing Society – is a must for your diary.

The passion for golf in Fife is visible everywhere, and you can’t help but be inspired by your surroundings. Talk to us when booking your luxury self catering lodge at Elderburn Lodges and we’ll help you to plan memorable St Andrews Golf Breaks. These timeless courses will fill you with lifelong memories.
